Woody's Biography
Woody’s
first love was dance. Starting DJing at the tender age of 13, he
realised that he wanted to be part of the scene: other than just
listening he wanted to contribute. Starting with the fashionable
trends at the time, Happy Hardcore, Hard House and Trance
were the first records he bought while finding inspiration
from Judge Jules and Red Jerry but it was hearing Joe
Smooth’s "Promised Land", that Woody found his love
for House. Listening closely to Erick Morillo and Danny Rampling, the
whole meaning behind the music touched him and he was totally
taken away. During the past three years, Woody’s music has
broadened, spreading the entire depth of the House genre;
finding the funky sound from Chicago, he started to experiment
more and more until we arrive here today; where Woody considers
his favourite DJ and producer to be Erick Morillo along with
Audiowhores, Richard F, Definite Groove, Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim
and Jose Nunez and his favourite labels as Subliminal, Defected,
Spinnin, Essence, Junior, Sondos and Hooj.
His first performance was at Addiction along side Andy Whitby,
Si Withenshaw and Wisla and Lisa M. After warming up the main
room for an hour, he was asked to do another session in
the back room for two hours. From there he was invited to
perform at "Kushti", where he was soon made resident
and has played alongside Amber D and Kernzy and Klemenza. Woody
is also a regular on Infusion FM.
He has been involved in a number of promotion projects, for
clubnights such as Addiction and Kushti and is also co-owner
of DJ tutorial website "Recess" (www.recess.co.uk),
which has since been featured in DJ Magazine, I DJ Magazine and
the "How To DJ Properly" DJ guide. Woody is also
a regular on 4clubbers (www.4clubbers.net), Homegrown
(www.homegrown-music.com)
and Amber D (www.amberd.dj):
keeping in touch with his roots. "I spend a large amount
of time emailing, talking and contributing to the support of
DJs, producers, promotors and connecting close to clubbers,
which I feel is important, at the end of the day we are all in
the same community and we should all support each other".
2003 is set to be a busy year for Woody, he is looking forward
to be playing on BPM Radio, other clubnights around the country
and producing tracks alongside Homegrown and other artists. This
is before we mention the launch of his clubnight Mind, Body and
Soul, which recieved much positive appraisal. Woody is also looking
forward to playing alongside more established artists and making
even more friends along the way. He just can’t wait to get
started!! A favourite wherever he goes, filling up rooms with
his funked up grooves and dirty rhythms; give him two or
three decks and let him take you away.
"I love what I do and I love my
music. I am serious about what I do but at the same time I love
going crazy on the dancefloor, putting fun not only into my
Djing but my work too. It’s all about the music. I love
playing out to people and giving everyone a good time. I want to
show that dance music isn’t just fast beats and synthesisers
but meaningful rhythms taking them on a journey to a soulful
heaven, to an uplifting reality before reaching a funked up
ecstasy."
